TOPAZ (originally Viqueen) was designed beginning in 1963 by Naval Architect Ed Monk Sr. of Seattle WA and built by Bud Forder in Forder's yard in Kenmore WA. Commissioned as a private yacht by Seattle professional Charles Erickson, TOPAZ hailed from Erickson's Bainbridge Island abode upon her launch in 1964. In the late 1990's TOPAZ was transferred to Fabrice, who enlisted the help of a woodworker to refit the galley, as well as the forward and main berth flooring to its current stunning inlay style. Fabrice left TOPAZ to Christine Jeffko, an expert varnisher who had done much of the varnish work while the boat was still with Fabrice. During Jeffko's time, TOPAZ was kept on the Duwamish River. In 2019 TOPAZ was brought back to her home waters of Bainbridge Island by the Doerr's - Captain Ben Doerr and Deb Doerr and their two children. In their four-year tenure as TOPAZ's caretakers, the Doerr's seamlessly picked up the varnish work left them by Jeffko, and devotedly maintained and enhanced TOPAZ to the exquisite live-aboard and cruising capabilities she now offers.
