Historical Summary:
KIYI has been owned (since 1977) by Tom and Patty Henderson prior to my recent 2023 ownership. Designed by Leigh Coolidge, KIYI originally had a Hall-Scott 100 HP gas engine when launched from the Schertzer Brothers Yard in 1926. She was built in 10 weeks for Clayton Philbrick, a member of the Seattle Yacht Club. A "flybridge" was added to the saloon roof in the late 1950's, reportedly by Frank Protherow. A very slender 10'-4" beam on 50'-0" overall, with a sharp bow, low freeboard, and fantail stern, allows her to slip through the water with uncommon ease. She has a 2000# lead keel shoe. Her original Coolidge 5-blade propeller looks like new. At 1650 RPM KIYI cruises economically at 8 knots. The interior is being remodeled at this writing.
Hull Construction: KIYI's hull is Port Orford cedar planked over white oak frames; cabin sides are teak; decks and cabin tops are fir, skinned over with plywood and epoxy glassed. The hull is iron fastened. The rudder and aperture are cast bronze. The backbone is fir.
Propulsion: KIYI's single engine is a Chrysler Crown 6-cylinder (gas), 110 HP. Cruising speed is 7.5 knots, maximum 10 knots.
