Leota was owned by Gilbert Bixby during WWll. He was in the Navy and skippered the vessel on patrol in Alaskan waters, from Southeast Alaska out thru the Aleutians. The Navy leased the vessel from him for $1dollar a year and made him captain, and they installed a 50 cal on the front deck.

Leota was owned and skippered by my good friend (passed away) Gilbert Bixby during WWll. He was in the Navy and skippered that vessel on patrol in Alaskan waters, from Southeast Alaska out thru the Aleutians. The Navy leased the vessel from him for $1dollar a year and made him captain, and they installed a 50 cal on the front deck. In the ‘70’s the vessel was offered in an outcry auction here in the Juneau Harbor. I participated in the auction but was not the successful bidder. The new owner then took the vessel to the Seattle area for refurbishment. I lost track of it after that.
