Historical Summary:
Loueda, a 30ft Cruiser, was built at Granville Island, Vancouver BC in 1947 with the builder listed as H.E Snider and to a design by Ed Monk. Snider owned the boat until 1967 where she passed to R.F Chudley of Victoria and then in 1970 on to John Cunningham of North Vancouver. In 1987 she was sold to Elmer "Buck" Buckingham who, along with being a significant player in the local wooden boat scene, carried out extensive and sympathetic renovations. With Buckingham she was taken at least as far as Sointula and on many occasions on lengthy voyages up the east coast of Vancouver Island as detailed in her logs which we have from 1987 to the present day. She featured at many Vancouver Wooden Boat Festivals and won the log race in 1992. Sold again in 1997 to Patrick Shaw she has been well maintained but seems to have fallen off the radar somewhat with regards the Wooden Boat "circuit". We bought her in June 2016. Her construction is of red cedar below the waterline, yellow cedar above and mahogany cabin. The engine was replaced in the mid-70s with a 6 cylinder Chrysler-Nissan diesel which she retains. Most original features remain intact and no alterations have been made to her layout or structure; a modern head and propane stove seem to be the only deviations from the original. She is featured in Bet Oliver's book Ed Monk and the Tradition of Classic Boats and won Best Motor Yacht 30ft and Under at 2016's Vancouver Wooden Boat Festival.
