Silva's Legacy

Historical Summary:

1964 model express cruiser, custom built for Paul and Helen Perdue of Tacoma, WA. They were very active members of the Tacoma Yacht Club and moored the boat in a boathouse there during their ownership. They ordered the boat with a single Crusader 409 ci engine and a Borg Warner Velvet Drive transmission. They named her "Hellaine II".

The second owner, Don Lacy (also a member of TYC) purchased the boat in January 1984, and kept her in the original boathouse until our purchase in July 2018. I credit Don for the fantastic condition of the boat due to his obvious attention to maintenance over all those years. They named her "Southerly".

We purchased Southerly in July 2018, and renamed her "Silva's Legacy" for Fran's father who was a partner in the original Nordlund - Silva Boat Company. He would have played an active role in the construction of this boat along with Fran's brother Steve. We saw this boat by chance listed for sale two months after Walt passed away, and couldn't pass up the chance to own a piece of his legacy, hence the name change. Also, as coincidence would have it, the second owner, Don Lacy, was a co-worker of Fran's for many years at KSTW - Ch 11, and she never knew he owned one of her father’s boats until the day we all met for the test ride in 2018!

When we bought the boat, it was largely untouched and original, down to the beautiful mahogany, turquoise upholstery, pebble finish vinyl floors, and 409 Chevy engine. We have since gone through almost every part of the boat to bring it up to modern standards, while trying as much a possible to maintain the original heart and soul of the boat. Unfortunately, the 409 engine gave up on us two years ago, and as much as we wanted to rebuild it, we chose to repower instead because we want to use and enjoy her for many years to come without the worry of finding antique engine parts. We're working on the cosmetic features now (and forever) so the legacy lives on with Walt's kids, grandkids and great grandkids all able to enjoy his wonderful work. San Juans and Gulf Islands, here we come!!
