Tabu

Historical Summary:

Tabu in the Locks, June 17, 2012 [Rick Etsell photo]

This 1940 Chris Craft Double Cabin Enclosed Flying Bridge was originally built for Bernard Townsen Smith (son of Chris Smith, the owner of Chris Craft). At some point during the build, another owner came into play with a second double-sided sheet of additional equipment. The original icebox with electric freezer is intact today. The flying bridge was added in 1957 to plans drawn by Chris Craft. (Compare with her sister Maranee, without the flying bridge.) The boat was sold in Spokane, WA and launched in Idaho at Lake Pend Oreille to avoid being conscripted for WWII. Due to gas rationing, Tabu seemed a fitting name. We are the seventh documented owners and our family loves all our time aboard.
