Most recent classic yacht owner & former CYA member Dana Hayden, originally endorsed by Mel Owen of PAT PENDING in 1994 (processed by Cynthia & Mont Mc Millen when Jim Butz was CYA Commodore). Vessel's name was originally "RUNAWAY" she was built at Lake Union Drydock and design by Ted Geary for film noir director, King Vidor. Dana later re-named her after a province in Tahiti where he spent quality time with his father, sailor/actor/writer Sterling Hayden.

Dana unfortunately passed in 2018 of brain cancer after living aboard TAUTIRA for over 25 years. Lauren de Remer (Dana's girlfriend) has been the vessel's caretaker since his passing; the vessel is currently managed by a family trust. Lauren is looking to raise money for a full restoration, and hopes to create a nonprofit for TAUTIRA to run palliative programs onboard for Bay Area cancer patients and their families.
