Katherine Jane (ex-Beagle)

Historical Summary:

Comments by Tad Roberts, NA (FB post 3-24-25):

Built by Fellows & Stewart of San Pedro in 1951 to a William Garden design for George Mitchell of Pasadena, California. A heavy power cruiser with short ketch rig including twin running "spinnakers" for trade wind work. Conceived with a notion of almost endless range with 3800 usg of fuel for twin GM 3-71's, she was originally fitted with twin 6-71's instead. I find little to really like in the arrangement, except maybe the engine room access from the wheelhouse. Otherwise it seems a lot of closed up little spaces, which is good at sea but not so great for living aboard.

58' overall with a 55'6" designed waterline, beam is 16'6" and designed draft 6'6". Designed displacement was 58 tons (130,000 lbs) with a lot of inside concrete ballast. A while back she was re-named Katherine Jane, and today is called JoAhna K.
